Four fields of grey, amber, yellow, and orange hold their ground on either side of a cross that cuts through the canvas in deep red and black, bleeding downward into the lower quadrants, its vertical arm crowned by a descending stroke of white that reads unmistakably as light from above. It is a painting about what happens at the place where opposing forces meet and something greater intervenes — abstract in form, yet unmistakably an act of grace.
